1997: Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA), This one I felt like had a lot of relevance just from the little I already know about foster care and the system, though I'm sure I'll learn more about how the others are relevant as well. This law impacts my work as a CASA because it is focused on what I feel like are the main things I'll focus on: The safety of the child, the temporary nature of foster care, and permanency plans. I'll need to keep this law in mind constantly as I consider these issues and what is best for each child.

I would definitely take the time to get to know the family and parents' situation so I could assess what's best for the child. I would do anything in my power to ensure that that child is never hurt again. I would take time to get to know the mother and become her friend, as you can't really befriend an infant, because ultimately that could have the most impact on the child's life.
