Activity 5.1: The Johnson Case
Your pre-service training is nearly complete! In this last chapter you will now have the chance to use all of the information, skills and knowledge you have gained throughout the volunteer training program to complete an online case study.
Part 1: Read through the Initial Case Notes for the Johnson Family:
**I was just reading through the initial notes on the first page in the Current Situation it says that they identified the child as Sam Johnson but it was actually Caleb who was found wandering around.**
Pretend that it is 2016 again. You are appointed as the CASA on August 19th. The Adjudicatory Hearing is scheduled for September 20th.
Choose your own adventure as you work through the following documents:
Education: They are attending the same school as they were before placement.
Caleb attends Discovery Elementary. He is currently in the 3rd grade in a classroom for special needs children. Sam attends Discovery Elementary. He is currently in the 2nd grade in a classroom for special needs children.

As you work through the case, formulate recommendations you might include in your court report. I haven't figured out a way to include a hypothetical visit with the kids on the case, so feel free to use your imagination on what you might experience when meeting with the kids for the first time.
Part 2: Using the local court report template, prepare a CASA/GAL court report for the Johnson case. Spend no more than 60-90 minutes completing the court report. You will then email your completed court report as a Word document to info@casa7.org please put “Johnson Case Review" in the subject line.

The case will take you approximately two hours to complete. If you have any questions, including what you would want to investigate further in this case, post them below.
Don't stress about making your report perfect, it is just practice!
